Notes & Reviews:

Franz Konwitschny (1901-1962) was one of the most important East German conductors of the 20th century, and is here conducting the orchestra he took over from 1949 until his death. The Chopin Concertos feature one of Germany's most important pianists, Annerose Schmidt, an almost exact contemporary of Igor Oistrakh. She has been an active pianist and chamber musician since the 1950's and is accompanied again by the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under one of today's most popular conductors, Kurt Masur.
