Notes & Reviews:

Haydn's Symphony No. 88 was involved in one of the first cases of bootlegging. Haydn gave the symphony to his regular Viennese publisher and was surprised to see it available from a French publisher some time later. An angry exchange of letters resulted in an early cease and desist order. The 101st Symphony is called the clock because, as he was wont to do, Haydn added a ticking accompaniment motif as a joke.
