Notes & Reviews:

Concertos for fortepiano and orchestra were all the vogue at the time Mozart wrote these works. The pianoforte was different in sound, rather "subdued" in the bass register, but always limpid and transparent. Mozart seems to have appreciated these qualities. He preferred the highly sophisticated fortepianos of the Augsburg instrument maker, Johann Andreas Stein, but in Vienna he also performed on a more robust instrument built by Anton Walter.
