Notes & Reviews:

Frank Bridge (1879-1941) is most often mentioned as the teacher of a later and more famous British composer, Benjamin Britten, but his own music has become more and more admired after a long period of neglect. It was his orchestral music that suffered most; the suite The Sea was the only one of his fifteen major orchestral pieces to be performed with any regularity. The early success of his chamber music at home, and subsequently in America under the patronage of his friend and benefactress Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge, somewhat overshadowed his essays in the orchestral field.
