Notes & Reviews:
Nusantara is the ancient name of Indonesia and simply means "archipelago." The solo part of this work was written for the Indonesian musician Ananda Sukarlan. Composed in 2005, Nusantara employs a pentatonic scale typical of Gamelan music. The Concerto for Violin was written in 1997 and calls for far larger forces than Nusantara. Despite this, the overall sound is generally leaner and tends towards a more chamber-like orchestration. David del Puerto, born in Madrid in 1964, studied guitar and harmony. Since 1985 his works have been performed at festivals and concert seasons worldwide.
