Verdi: Luisa Miller / Benini, Sabbatini, Takova, et al

Album Summary

>Verdi, Giuseppe : Luisa Miller
Performers Conductor Ensembles Composer

Notes & Reviews:

The events that led Verdi to create Luisa Miller were rather tormented; the main reason was the fact that the composer was obliged by contract to write a second opera for the San Carlo in Naples. The subjects taken into consideration included "a magnificent drama of great theatrical effect" by Friedrich Schiller. Contacts between Verdi and the librettist Salvatore Cammarano for the drafting of the new opera date back to 1846.
