Notes & Reviews:

To mark Vladimir Ashkenazy's 70th birthday year, Decca will release the only major piano work that this iconic pianist has not previously recorded-Beethoven's Diabelli Variations. The demanding Diabelli Variations call for an enormous range of technical and interpretive skills. Appropriately for a Russian artist, the disc will also include Beethoven's Variations on a Russian Dance, a welcome new version of a rarely recorded work.
