Notes & Reviews:

The exceptionally fine and dramatic recording of Tippett's Concerto for Double String Orchestra was never recorded by Kempe and is a new addition to Kempe's discography. Alban Berg's Violin Concerto, one of the greatest 20th century concertos and one of the very few 12-note pieces to have retained its place in the repertory, is supremely played by the German violinist Edith Peinemann. A cult figure for classical collectors she is today known as a celebrated international teacher and President of ESTA. This new version of Janacek's Sinfonietta comes from the Fairfield Hall in 1975 and is more dramatic and better played than the earlier version. Kempe never recorded the Sinfonietta commercially. All these pieces are recorded in excellent stereo.
