Notes & Reviews:

The renowned German tenor, active in opera, in the concert hall and in films (his son was the actor Walter Slezak) was an exception to the rule that opera singers don't make good lieder singers. Indeed, his exceptional phrasing and musicality is fully evident in this important reissue.
