Notes & Reviews:
Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was a master in combining the tendencies and possibilities of his time and weaving them into forward-looking structures. He was concerned not with the brilliance of each work, but its integrity. No virtuoso himself, Haydn created works which are not virtuoso concertos, but which nevertheless can only be played by virtuous musicians.
