Notes & Reviews:

This CD encapsulates a great partnership (which lasted for more than 30 years) of Janet Baker and Raymond Leppard who both started coming to Benjamin Britten's Aldeburgh Festival in the late 1950's. This recital was especially requested by Britten and was wide-ranging both in repertoire and forms, selected by Leppard to suit Baker who "couldn't sing anything well unless she was committed to the words," according to Leppard. A 1969 BBC interview with Janet Baker and Marjorie Anderson completes this recital from Aldeburgh.
