Renowned Japanese pianist Takahashi has long had a commitment to modern music. Her first public recital, while still a graduate student, focused on the music of Toru Takemitsu. She has been a leading advocate in the revival of Satie's music in her homeland, and this disc, a remarkably diverse exploration of the tango genre (a kind of counterpart to the "New Waltz" series in this country) exhibits her creative and interpretative imagination to the highest degree.
