Introduction by: Tim Stafford.

File this one under "why fix it if it ain't broke." THROUGH THE WINDOW OF A TRAIN continues Blue Highway's string of spot-on contemporary bluegrass classics. On their ninth record, it is easy to see why Billboard described them as "a bluegrass supergroup" and Grammy awarded them several times over. Their harmonies are stirring and impeccable, their string picking sine qua non, and their group energy--culled from a decade and a half on the road--magnetic.

Guitarist Tim Stafford, multi-instrumentalist Shawn Lane, bassist Wayne Taylor, and banjo player Jason Burleson all contribute virtuoso performances throughout THROUGH THE WINDOW OF A TRAIN, but the star of the show has to be Rob Ickes, whose mesmerizing dobro skills--check out the instrumental "The North Cove"--are unsurpassed. Blue Highway's signature hard-hitting approach to songwriting is in ample evidence here as well with lyrical topics such as homelessness and veterans' issues tucked in with the usual nostalgic, high lonesome fare. Contemporary bluegrass at its best.
