Notes & Reviews:

With its reproduction on the inside of the original Columbia LP cover of the Concerto, this welcome reissue is not only a tribute to two great artists but a true nostalgia item. This was the violinist's first recording of the work; it was also one of the last monophonic recordings made by Columbia. A mere five years later, Francescatti would re-record the work with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic. Hence, this earlier performance was only available for a short time - yet many consider it the greater of the two and one of the finest recorded, especially with the sympathetic conducting of Ormandy.
