Notes & Reviews:

Risto-Matti Marin (b. 1976) is currently working on his artistic Doctorate at the Sibelius Academy in Finland with a particular emphasis on piano transcripts. This highly unusual release therefore serves as a thesis and an exploration of some familiar as well as offbeat material. As he points out in his notes, there is a definite borderline between the compositions of original material and the arranging of previous music into a new performance medium. Is it art or simply entertainment? An academic exercise? In the past, transcriptions served as purpose by allowing orchestral music to be heard in the home in arrangements for piano solo or duo.
