Notes & Reviews:

"La Superba" was the ecstatic nickname bestowed on the Spanish soprano Montserrat Caballe when RCA Red Seal released her first solo recordings in 1966. As she celebrates in 2008 the 75th anniversary of her birth, she can look back on a career of incredible diversity and sublime achievement. Caballe's richly expressive voice - capable of immense power but also the most delicately spun high notes - represents a golden age in and of itself, triumphant in everything from the limpid bel canto of Bellini to the thundering drama of Verdi, Wagner and Strauss. This is some of the most sheerly beautiful singing ever committed - essential in every sense of the world.
