In a small society like Iceland, composers and performers of classical music are not numerous. In fact, this kind of music has only been performed in Iceland for about a century. The five composers and four performers on this recording all know each other and have worked together in orchestras, chamber groups and other settings. The composers are well-known personalities and not only for their compositions. They have been of great importance to Icelandic musical life as leaders, teachers, performers and conductors. The works on this disc were written in the last quarter of the 20th century, which can be regarded as a heyday of Icelandic chamber music, especially music centered around the clarinet.
