Notes & Reviews:
Winterreise as you might never have imagined it! This new version of Schubert’s integrated cycle of 24 songs on poems by Wilhelm Muller, while remaining faithful to the original text, unhitches it from its era and makes it nearly a work of today. In this recording, the colors inherent in Schubert’s piano score grow naturally into the unique combination of the wind quintet Pentaedre and Joseph Petric’s accordion, and the expressiveness of Schubert’s melodies provide a perfect vehicle for Christoph Pregardien’s mature artistry.
Forget's rescoring is cleverly judged, and brilliantly realised by Joseph Petric and the virtuoso instrumentalists of Pentaèdre. Prégardien has long been one of the most probing interpreters of Winterreise; and he gives a profoundly felt interpretation founded on a pure legato line and clear, expressive diction.
