Lefébure-Wely: Organ Works Vol 3 / Richard Lea

Remarks:

Lefebrue-Wely, arguably the most celebrated French organist of his time, certainly gave the public what they wanted to hear: dazzling improvisations influenced by the fashionable Parisian operettas of the day. He was also a close friend of the famed organ-builder Aristide Cavaille-Coll and often inaugurated his latest creation. The main work here, L'Organiste Moderne, has been described as being based on improvisations. Here one finds rustic pastorals, hymn-like communions and Bachian chorale preludes and fugues. In short, the full gamut of what the organ is capable of.
