Notes & Reviews:

Ignace Jan Paderewski (1860-1941) was arguably the most famous, and certainly the highest paid, pianist who ever lived. In the years between 1890 and 1914, his fame reached levels now only reserved for the biggest pop stars. After a stint as the prime minister of Poland after the end of World War I, Paderewski resumed his concert career in the 1920s and continued to perform until his death. His posthumous reputation has suffered somewhat from the recordings he made later in life, when his artistry was no longer in its prime. Here to redress the balance are his earliest European recordings from 1911-12, available complete for the first time.
