Composers

Notes & Reviews:

This boxed set is a history lesson in sound, exploring the remarkable series of works, in many forms, that constituted musical life in the Dresden Court of the Baroque era. Along with such famous names as Telemann and Vivaldi, many less-famous but substantial composers are heard, with a generous selection of works by Jan Dismas Zelenka, the most important Czech composer of the era. No one better understands this music today than the virtuoso trumpeter and conductor Ludwig Guttler. In 1985 he founded the Virtuosi Saxoniae, who are members of the Staatskapelle Dresden, an ensemble whose flexibility allows them to perform a wide variety of works from the era.
