Kazumi Sato studied in Germany at the Hochschule der Kunste Hamburg and at the Hochschule der Kunst Berlin. He was appointed principal flutist of Bayern Hofer Symphoniker in 1973 and in 1976 was appointed lecturer at the Musikschule Berlin. He is active as a soloist and a member of various chamber ensembles. He performs these staples of the flute repertoire on a Johannes Hammig flute made in 1507.
