Notes & Reviews:
The main aim of the SWR Symphony Orchestra since its foundation in 1946 has been to increase audience awareness not only of the symphonic repertoire of the past two centuries, but also of the music of the 20th century. Apart from its four chief conductors - Hans Rosbaud, Ernest Bour, Kazimierz Kord and Michael Gielen - the orchestra has worked on a regular basis with conductors such as Sir John Barbirolli, Karl Bohm, Pierre Boulez, Ferenc Fricsay, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, and Sir George Solti.
