M. Haydn: Sacred Music for the Season of Lent / Vashegyi, Purcell Choir, et al

Remarks:

Posterity does occasionally bestow moral compensation on the unfairly neglected masters of the past. This now seems to be happening to the younger Johann Michael Haydn (1737–1806) whose life and work is being reappraised. Although in Vienna and its surroundings the name Haydn was synonymous with Joseph, in Salzburg it was more readily associated with Michael. The "Salzburg": Haydn began his career working at the residence of a Hungarian bishop in Nagyvarad (now Oradea in Romania). He later found employment in Salzburg and was to remain in Mozart's home city with a faithfulness characteristic of his family from 1763 until his death in 1806.
