Album Remarks & Appraisals:
This collection shows real-life dramas that were outside the experience of most record consumers of the time: first flights of airships, circus auctions; and minstrel shows, for example. The people depicted were often those from outside the dominant majority, such as German or Irish immigrants, rural folk and African Americans. The public places visited, such as vaudeville houses, were often forbidden or denigrated by religious opinion. It seems these descriptive records brought into the home an outside world that was familiar, yet very distant.
