Album Summary
Performer
Gerhard Taschner (Violin)
Notes & Reviews:
MDG has scored three great successes with the violin wonder Gerhard Taschner, who dazzled the Viennese public at the age of thirteen and later became the youngest concertmaster of Wilhelm Furtwangler's Berlin Philharmonic. This violin virtuoso bequeathed only a few sound documents to posterity, but they are of the best quality and even today can vie for recording prizes. His renderings of the Violin Concertos of Sibelius and Khachaturian and of the Carmen Fantasy by Pablo de Sarasate continue to shine with a magician's mastery. How fortunate it is that Gerhard Taschner's captivating performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra under the conductor Herbert Sandberg on 6 November 1956 somehow managed to survive in the archives!
