Album Summary
Performers
Philippe Bernold (Flute)
Alexandre Tharaud (Piano)
Notes & Reviews:
Virtuoso flutist Philippe Bernold performs five twentieth-century masterworks of the repertoire for solo flute - works which also happen to be milestones in the music of our time: 'Sonatinas' for flute and piano by Pierre Boulez and Henri Dutilleux (with pianist Alexandre Tharaud); '5 Incantations' by Andre Jolivet; 'Le Merle noir' by Olivier Messiaen, and 'Density 21.5' by Edgar Varese. Bernold combines his busy international solo career with the position of first flute of the Orchestre de l'Opera National de Lyon, a position to which he was appointed by John Eliot Gardiner in 1983.
