Notes & Reviews:

Among Julius Rontgen's some twenty symphonies, his Waltz Symphony belongs to the group of six one-movement symphonies, each of fifteen to twenty minutes in length, composed by him in record time in 1930. The timpani and xylophone introduce the waltz and then drive it on - an entertaining, vibrant work and a remarkable listening experience! The Symphonietta humoristica of 1922 cannot really be termed a "symphony." Performances of its four loosely connected, pretty little movements always enjoyed the greatest success, and the festive Vivace giocoso, with its repeated reminiscences of Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream, is indeed humoristic.
