Notes & Reviews:
Of the some thirty Burgerkapitansmusiken (Compositions for the Civic Captains of Hamburg) composed by Music Director Telemann between 1723 and his death in 1767, only nine works are extant in full. These oratorios occupy the highest ranks within Telemann's oeuvre. The allegorical texts almost always referring to the local Hamburg context set in motion all his creative and imaginative forces. This quite early oratorio is bursting with musical surprises!
