Raphael Wallfisch (Cello)
Notes & Reviews:
John Tavener achieved international recognition in 1968 with 'The Whale', which so impressed the Beatles that they issued it (and other Tavener compositions) on their Apple label. Religious music has always been an important part of his output, even more so since his conversion to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1977. This marked a turning away from his more avant-garde style and a concentration on music that was more spiritual and contemplative.
