Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Beethoven's last completed symphony was given its first public performance in Vienna on May 7, 1824. Since then its meaning and significance have been discussed by succeeding generations of musicologists and music lovers. It is in every sense a revolutionary and magnificent work for its motivic concentration, tonal relationships, sheer volume of sound, and overpowering finale, which consists largely of a choral and vocal setting of parts of Schiller’s 'Ode to Joy'.
