Notes & Reviews:

After graduating from the Juilliard School of Music, where he studied with Christine Dethier and Ivan Galamian, Jonathan Carney moved to London on a Leverhulme Fellowship Award and continued his studies at the Royal College of Music. Before being appointed Leader of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, he toured the Americas and the Far East as both guest leader and soloist with orchestras from Europe and North America. Carney is an avid exponent of twentieth century music, and his repertoire includes concerti by Lutoslawski, Penderecki, Hindemith, Barber, Walton, and William Bolcom. In his debut at the Royal Festival Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1992, he performed Vaughan Williams' 'The Lark Ascending'. Carney plays a 1712 Giovanni Grancino violin given to him by Christine Dethier.
