Remarks:
This is the latest release in the Contemporaries of Mozart series. George Joseph Vogler was born in Germany in 1749. A celebrated teacher whose pupils included Weber and Meyerbeer, he became famous for his improvisations, which were immortalized by Robert Browning in his poem 'Abt Vogler'. While his music is little known today, and comparatively little of it survives, Robert Schumann praised it as late as 1838. Matthias Bamert conducts the London Mozart Players in this program of world premiere recordings.Reviews
