Brigitte Balleys, born in Valais, won the Benson & Hedges Competition in London as the best interpreter of Lieder. She made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in 1987 under the direction of Erich Leinsdorf in the role of Cherubino, which she then performed in Zurich under Nicolaus Harnancourt and in Liege, among others.
