Remarks:
Violinist Hagai Shaham returns with a new disc of music by Leo Weiner (1885-1960) - a much-respected national figure in Hungary, but one who never established the same level of international recognition as Bartok and Kodaly. Weiner's two violin sonatas are the focus of this disc. The first is reminiscent of the Brahms sonatas in mood and structure, but Wiener regarded the second sonata as one of his most important works. The remainder of this disc is centered on Weiner's works based upon different kinds of Hungarian folk tunes.Notes:
