Crusell: Clarinet Quartets / Laszlo Horváth, Dumas String Trio

Remarks:

The three quartets with clarinet on the present recording are the most remarkable items of Crusell's chamber music output. In this case the wind part does not put such high virtuoso demands as in the concertos. These chamber music pieces were written with domestic, drawing room music making in mind rather than for concert hall performance, for skillful amateurs rather than virtuoso soloists. Nonetheless, the clarinet writing is idiomatic whereas the three string instrumental parts are admittedly in the nature of accompaniment.
