Notes & Reviews:
Established as today's most exciting and charismatic player of the lute, Edin Karamazov, the featured lutenist of Sting's best-selling album 'Songs from the Labyrinth' now releases his own Decca debut album. Edin surpasses the technical boundaries of his instrument and explores music from Cuban folk to traditional Bach and Handel to an old Macedonian song. Within this mix of music, he collaborates with Renee Fleming, Kaliopi, Andreas Scholl, and Sting. According to the Los Angeles Times, "Karamazov is a dazzler."
Gramophone Magazine
... a release that's as unusual and distinctive as Edin Karamazov's own playing. What other lutenist would open his disc with Leo Brouwer's Paisaje cubano con rumba, originally for four guitars but here played on a single, multi-tracked electric guitar, and follow it by accompanying Sting on archlute as the latter sings his own 'Alone with my thoughts this evening"?
Personnel: Edin Karamazov (electric guitar, archlute, theorbo); Renée Fleming (soprano); Andreas Scholl (countertenor).
Recording information: Friendship 7 Studio, Kiedrich, Germany; Legacy Studios, NY; Morris Studio, Zagreb, Croatia.
