Notes & Reviews:

This recording of 16th Century liturgical music is intended as a soundtrack for the book Sacred Hearts by Sarah Dunant. The vocal ensemble Musica Secreta was formed in 1990 to explore the music written for late 16th and early 17th Century female singers. The ensemble has been in the forefront of performance practice research in the repertoire for nearly 20 years.

This CD was inspired by best selling author Sarah Dunant, a fan of Musica Secreta, asking the group to record a `soundtrack' album to her latest novel Sacred Hearts (pub. Random House); this program of 16th and early 17th century chant and polyphony from Palestrina and Da Rore sung by women's has quickly found success and earned the `Editor's Choice' award from Gramophone magazine in October, as well as many rave reviews.
