Notes & Reviews:

From the time of its creation, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater was considered the emblem of perfection and expressive beauty of 18th century Italian music - and assured the composer an immediate posthumous reputation as a genius musician who died too young. On the eve of the tercentenary of his birth (in 2010), Barbara Hendricks, accompanied by Ulrika Tenstam and the DBE, has recorded this Stabat Mater along with the exquisite chamber cantata Orfeo.
