Notes & Reviews:

The early works of Toivo Kuula are in National Romantic style, but he later absorbed elements of contemporary French music. It is as a composer of vocal music - both solo and choral songs - that he is remembered most, but he was also a conductor of various orchestras. Kuula died in 1918 of wounds sustained in a brawl during a victory celebration in the aftermath of Finland's Civil War.
