Notes & Reviews:

This CD contains the "Sonata del Sur," written for piano and orchestra, composed by Oscar Esplà. The sound of the original recording is quite precarious, but it has been successfully reprocessed to offer a shining version by Alicia de Larrocha and the Spanish National Orchestra conducted by Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos in 1965.

Oscar Espla's (1886-1976) music is little by little obtaining a unique position on the Spanish musical scene. He can be compared to Samuel Barber in the U.S. or Francis Poulenc in France, whose music was not always fully appreciated at the time it was written.
