Notes & Reviews:

The Esoterics return with a program of their favorite springtime song cycles on love and life. Ross Lee Finney's Spherical madrigals resonates with the exploration and creativity of the Age of Reason, and Irving Fine's artful cycle of six Ben Jonson poems - The hour glass - traverses the evolution of love during the human lifetime. Recordings of two premiere performances of Hawley and Paulus, contrasting settings of Dickinson by Elliott Carter, and interpretations of Sara Teasdale by Mechem and Skirvin (the final work having been commissioned by The Esoterics) complete the set.
