Notes & Reviews:

Originally released as a deluxe, limited edition in October 2009, Cecilia Bartoli's 'Sacrificium' is now available in a standard, one-CD, jewel-case edition. The album was a critical and sales hit last fall and continues to be of great interest to Bartoli's fans and classical music enthusiasts. Here she uncovers the extraordinary and cruel world of the 'Castrati' and sings the glorious music they inspired. The album consists almost entirely of world-premiere recordings of some of the most virtuosic music ever written for the human voice.

bbc.co.uk - Charlotte Gardner
A classic Bartoli offering - an almost painfully slickly produced product that nevertheless sees off critical cynicism with its dramatic, technical and vocal prowess...[The arias'] virtuosity and range of emotion are as remarkable as Bartoli's excitingly, flawlessly passionate delivery of them.

Featuring mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli on vocals, Sacrificium is the 2009 release from Italian baroque collective Il Giardino Armonico. Featuring 12 pieces from the 17th and 18th centuries performed on various period instruments, it includes interpretations of the likes of Nicola Porpora's "In Braccio a Mille Furie," Leonardo Vinci's "Chi Temea Giove Regnante," and Antonio Caldara's "Profezie di Me Diceste." ~ Jon O'Brien
