Notes & Reviews:

To date, only one CD of historically informed performance has featured in the catalogue of Wigmore Hall Live. It is now joined by another disc: a harpsichord programme, featuring a leading soloist in his field. Trevor Pinnock, of course, is one of the pioneering figures in historically informed performance, having founded the English Concert in 1973. 36 years on, he retains his questing spirit: "We have to beware of creating new styles of period performance and believing that they are the only correct ones," he said in a recent interview. "We've got to keep questioning, since these are all modern interpretations... Phrasing, instrumentation, ornamentation are all up for grabs. And these are only the superficial elements. The deepest discussions go on when we ask the music what it wants."
