Notes & Reviews:

The French repertoire for violin and piano could rely on an extraordinary and privileged performer: Jascha Heifetz. Unfortunately he restricted his interest and attention (as was his custom) to a quite small number of works which evidently comprised Debussy’s and Ravel’s masterpieces and very few additional compositions. Among them there is the beautiful Sonata No. 1 of Saint-Saens which up to now was just available in RCA’s complete edition issued many years ago. The present release will represent a nice surprise for many fans of the great violin virtuoso who were waiting the reissue of some of his most rare and prestigious recordings which have been excluded from catalogues. They are now once again available on an accurate digital re-mastering.
