Notes & Reviews:

Eric Whitacre's dedication to the beauty of sound, paired with exquisite texts, results in a poetic combination that creates a unique sonic experience. These works are existential choral moments, beautifully crafted, and harmonised to express a compressed moment in time. Such sublime sonorities transcend descriptions such as "warm", "glistening" or "shimmering", although these features of his choral works do suggest affinities with the sound worlds of Arvo Part or John Tavener, for instance. However, Whitacre's fluid lines and blossoming harmonies give his music its own highly personal and irresistible magic.

"[Whitacre] couldn't have more luminous or illuminating interpreters than the Elora Festival Singers... first-rate performances... 'I thank you God for most this amazing day' is truly a masterpiece of choral writing... Highly recommended." - Classics Today

"The fresh-sounding Toronto-based Elora Festival Singers obviously love this optimistic and transparently honest music...Tuning is always spot-on and Nigel Edison draws a wide dynamic range from his singers. Climaxes are never coarse and the church acoustic is used to sublime effect...This stimulating and superb disc is a bargain and an absolute 'must-have'".-Gramophone Magazine

"...a choir long on experience and comfortable in its own collective skin. The mainly vibrato-less singing is warmly blended, with spot-on pitching, and a welcome focus on elucidating text and structure without gimmicky effect-making." -BBC Music Magazine ****

Houston Chronicle
Eric Whitacre is currently a star in the choral world, and this disc certainly helps to explain why. His music is rich, resonant and entirely suited to the choral medium. Mind you, it helps that the choir recorded on this work - Noel Edison's the Elora Festival Singers - is one of the finest vocal ensembles on the continent ... Whitacre's choral textures shines radiantly. This is meditative music, but it also has an underlying power in it.

A Must Buy
This is the second disc that I have absolutely just wanted to jump with choral excitement for! What a great group of performers! Their radiant tone speaks of their attention to blend and precision of breath. While I am not a huge fan of the straight tone sound, this group executes it without any hint of trouble and definitely has no intonation issues. Eric Whitacre’s music is already a majestic accomplishment—the intricate harmonies in themselves are just incredible. But more exciting is to have a group like this sing his music—with such concern for tone, clarity in blend, attention to the dynamics, precision in phrasing, and performance quality of perfection! This is not your typical choral music…but it is WONDERFUL! A MUST BUY!
