Album Summary
Performer
Michael Schneider (Recorder)
Notes & Reviews:
Michael Schneider cannot be topped on the recorder - worldwide. In his hands the recorder completely transcends everything that so often makes it seem an instrument of limited expressive capacity and becomes a voice for which all facets are possible. The extremely high technical demands of the recently rediscovered Concerto in F major by Johann Friedrich Fasch (here in a world-premiere release) render the listener breathless. Schneider has joined the Fasch concerto with other new discoveries: concertos by Graupner, Schickhardt, Schultze, and Scheibe. Apart from Telemann's numerous such compositions, we now have before us almost the complete repertoire of recorder concertos from the German stylistic domain.
The title of this album may produce an unintentionally comic effect: the recorder, the baroque instrument par excellence, seems to be far from the pathos of triumph. But once you listen to this world-premiere release of Johann Friedrich Fasch's recently rediscovered Concerto in F major with Michael Schneider, you'll agree that this is indeed a superlative victory. What is more, the Fasch concerto's extremely high technical demands even render the listener breathless. Schneider has joined other new discoveries to Fasch: concertos by Graupner, Schickhardt, Schultze, and Scheibe. Apart from Telemann's numerous such compositions, we now have before us almost the complete repertoire of recorder concertos from the German stylistic domain. Listening that comes with a guarantee of pleasure and marvel!
