Notes & Reviews:

Six exciting new works by Dr. Rosephanye Powell, plus plenty of familiar favorites including Dave Brubeck's "Precious Gift His Wondrous Birth" on the CD. The accompanying DVD (skillfully recorded December 24 & 25 2009 by WMAR-TV, ABC2) makes you feel you are at the performance in the majestic Baltimore Basilica and provides you a rich visual to accompany the choral and instrumental performances, as well as readings of two poems performed by Dr. Powell. Conductor Tom Hall's explanation on the DVD add depth to understanding the wide range of Dr. Powell's powerful offerings as an important African-American composer, as well as detailed information about the Basilica. Dr. Powell brings her Southern traditions and childhood memories of joyously celebrating Christmas to her musical compositions. Truly a Christmas gift to be savored!
