Notes & Reviews:
Not the least miracle of Le docteur Miracle is that is exists at all. The one-act operetta, a first-prizewinning composition from a contest organized by Jacques Offenbach, premiered in 1857 when Bizet was just 18 years old. Conductor Bruno Armaducci leads a stellar all-French cast that includes the celebrated lyric colatura Christiane Eda-Pierre; Robert Massard, a leading baritone of the second half of the 20th century; and splendid tenor Remy Corazza in Bizet's rarely recorded, youthful masterpiece.
Opera d'Oro presents Grand Tier, a deluxe edition of the most beloved Opera d'Oro performances with original artwork by Rafal Olbinski and re-mastered sound! Features a 24-page booklet with historic photos, a complete French libretto and new original English translation, and an essay on the performance by Bill Parker.
