Notes & Reviews:

Known for imagination, a graceful, elegant style and exquisite technique, Toronto-born Stewart Goodyear is an accomplished young artist whose career spans many genres - concerto soloist, chamber musician, recitalist and composer. He says, "Recording Beethoven's monumental final piano sonatas was not a choice for me; I was compelled. Since I first learned them when I was 16, these sonatas will not leave me alone. Life has given me very personal interpretations of these works, and I humbly share them with the listener."

On this 2-CD set the acclaimed Canadian pianist Stewart Goodyear performs five masterpieces of the classical repertoire, Beethoven's late Sonatas opus 101, 106, 109, 110, and 111.

A native of Toronto, Canada, pianist Stewart Goodyear is an accomplished young artist known for his musical imagination, elegant style and exquisite technique. He has performed with many of the major orchestras of the world including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Montreal Symphony, and the Atlanta Symphony. He has also formed a highly successful partnership with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and its long term Music Director, Paavo Jarvi with whom he has frequently appeared. His discography includes critically acclaimed performances of the concertos of Gershwin and Leroy Anderson on the best-selling Telarc disc "American Classics".

Beethoven's last five piano sonatas, opus 101 in A, opus 106 in B flat, opus 109 in E, opus 110 in A flat, and opus 111 in C minor are considered to be some of the composer's greatest achievements. They were written late in life between 1816 and 1822 and contain some of his most deeply felt music.

While the competition is huge in numbers and has many outstanding pianists who have staked out their claim to these last five Beethoven sonatas, there is always room at the top for one more. Goodyear belongs with that select group by virtue of his outstanding musicianship, sterling technical abilities, and intellect in placing his own valid and unique stamp on each of these pieces."-American Record Guide
